A cold night in Jotunheimen

I went to Jotunheimen to try out some new winter hiking gear. Not experienced at all and It was to be a very cold april night with temperatures dropping to 21 degrees below freezing. I did learn a few things. Night temperatures begins straight after the sun disappear behind the mountains. In this case 6 pm, just a minute after the tent was up. Water and bread freezes very fast. So you got too keep moving or get in your sleeping bag. Combining photography and hiking in very cold temperatures isn`t that easy.

Below is my (summer) tent as the last sunrays disappeared at the campsite

I had some cold bread before hiking for some sunset photography. I hadn`t really planned that well but headed towards Rasletinden. I had to change plans becuse of low temperature and poor snow conditions. Managed to get a few decent shots of the landscapes and setting sun though.

Quite pleased with this one.

Valdresflye in the blue hour

So I made og back to the tent and had some warm food and went to sleep about 10 pm. I had the alarm set for 1230 am, but the mobile had fallen out of the sleeping bag, flat battery, and I slept until 3.30..When I got outside both the aurora and milky way was still present, but it was a bit too late. Well, there wil be more opportunities some later.. This was the first time shooting the milky way so it was a lot of trial and error. Managed to get these shots

I tried to sleep a couple of hours until sunset, but was too cold now. So it was soon time to get out again for the sunrise. Again a bit of poor planning and struggle to find good compositions. Here are a few sunrise and golden hour shots

After some food I packed up and went back to the car. The weather was nice and sunny and suddenly quite warm as well. Did some scouting from the car before heading home. Here are some tele shots.
