Winter is here and lesson learnt
Well winter was here 8th october when I had one quite special night in Døråldalen,Rondane National park. It was special in every way..more of that later. So we rented this small cabin and headed north to Rondane. It had been some snow for a few days but nothing much except in the mountain peaks. The weather forecast didn`t show say more snow, but some wind. When we drove the last 10 km along the mountain road there were short streches with some snow that had blown across the road but nothing that seemed like causing any trouble. After we had parked the car and walked the last 500 meters to the cabin, we lit the fireplace to get the cabin warm and cozy. I went out again to do some photography
This is the view from just outside the cabin.
The direct light was gone quite early and after some waiting the colours began to lit up the low clouds in the mountains
After the light was gone for the night we made dinner with some red wine. It wasnt snowing and the wind was still quite calm. I was having a few thoughts about the road now and then though….
About 10 pm I went out for a pee and saw this amazing sky. It took some seconds to adopt to the dark. I got this shot. Its decent but I got to invest in some better lense for astro photography
We slept through the night and I had the alarm on 6 to see the sunrise. It was still dark and cloudy outside, but i decided to get up to check out the car and the road. Well, during the night the snow had blown across the road in long stretches. In some places the snow was 50 cm deep and very packed and hard. I decided to have a go with the car to check if it was possible to drive through the snow. I didnt have any option reallly. But I was soon was stuck with snow all around and under the car. After about 30 minutes of digging using my bare hands and trying to kick the snow away in front of the tires, I managed to to drive on. I thank the brand new winter tires og this being posssible at all. all sweaty and exhausted I also was at the same time stressed out thinking about the sunrise that were happening at the same time….
These are all photos that are shot after the car incident
This next photo are shot to the east as the light was really special
This is a shot after the sunset colours was gone, but the conditions were still amazing
So after this shoot I drove back to were I was stuck in the snow earliar in the morning and walked back to the cabin. We had breakfast outside as the weather was nice and sunny and the wind had calmed down. I was only thinking about getting packed up and trying to drive back on the mountain road to be fair. So we soon were back in the car and starting driving the mountain road in the direction of the main road in the valley. We soon ended up in front of another long stretch of snowy roads. I walked to see how long it was and realised that this was not going to work. There were long stretches og deep snow and we were never going to get rid of the snow ourselves. So, we were stuck 8 km into the mountain road with barely any mobile signal…. After some digging I started to search for telephone numbers as there were mobile signals now and then. The road company was not going to plow the road that day. I many text messages and calls, I finally got the number to a local farmer that lived by the road 8 km away. I managed to get him on the mobile, explained the sitation, and he replied straight away that he could help me with his tractor.. Well what a huuge relief to say the least. We waited for about 40 minutes when he arrived, turned around and plowed the road for us. Thats a million to the local farmer.
I will show you some mobile shots from this too ;)
