Best Winter Light Ever?

I did a early morning hike in a local area which I had only visited in the summer. Then I was there for the beech woodland. The location turned out to be the perfect spot for magic winter scenes. The combination of ice cold temperatures, sea fog and light was an amazing experience.

Also make sure to check out the youtube video from this day and hike by the lake

But first, on the way to the location by the lake, I passed a lonely tree. I instantly knew I had to turn the car and try to shoot it. So there I was standing in the road, looking for passing traffic and at the same time composing the tree and the moon in the frame. It turned out to be a great photo I think

Some minutes later chasing the best combination of fog and blue hour light I shot this dreamy scene, again by the road with the traffic signs and all in the frame

Then it was onwards to the planned location for the day. At first the sea fog was very dense and it looked a bit flat. But then it came clear that the conditions were changing fast. It was a question of finding the right locations, compositions and just wait for gaps in the fog to let the morning light shine through. The whole area by the lake felt all isolated and very distant from the rest of the world that day. Like a secret winter wonderland.

These are the first scenes that I got walking along the shoreline

At first I was a bit in the headless chicken mode. I was a afraid that I was too late and that the magic would go away before I got some decent photos in the bag. Composition came second to just shooting I guess

I like the composition for the next photo though. It`s long exposure useing the Kase Revolution Polariser and ND64. Its also focus stacked to have everything perfectly sharp from back to front

This next photo is shot at 210 mm with my new Nikon Z 100-400 lense. Again a 4 sec. long exposure made possible with the Kase filters. The apperture is 14 but its still focus stacked to get everything sharp

At noon I was thinking of going home or to another location as it was very cold. I did a short stroll in the beech woodland just to wait and see if the light got even better

Well it did….I I continued photographing until close to sunset…freezing but well worth the effort I think.

I as greeted by this sight as I walked out of the woodland. Just pure winter magic

Here is a 25 sec exposure with a Kase ND 1000

And here is a 30 sec. exposure with the same filter

So a fantastic day for landscape photography in a local loaction. Thats a great sunday!

On the way home I got this blue hour scene

Hope you like the post and the photos. Make sure to see the youtube video from this day also.

I really appreciate any likes, comments and subscriptions for this page or the youtube channel. Thanks! See you next time
