30 hours in Romsdalen

I had a 2 days trip to Romsdalen in late july, 2022. I spent one night in tent at the top of Trollsigen overlooking Stigbotnvatnet and Stigbotthornet. The second night was spent on Litlefjellet with breathtaking views in all directions, including Trollveggen, Venjetindan and Romsdalen. Here are some captures from that short adventure.

Just the drive from Dombås to Åndalsnes is interesting itself and there some great spots to explore on the way. Especially west of Lesja and when nearer to Rauma and Trollveggen. I stopped a few time to look and the misty mountain landscapes. Didn`t really have a specific plan, but decided to do Isteralen and Trollstigen first. The weather was very dark and moody which made som nice impression by the river Mistra and further up the valley. Below is a shot just by the rad beneath the famous road Trollstigen and the the bridge Trollstigbrua is visible in the misty background. This region knows how to proper name important landmark, mountain and lakes!!!

I looked around towards Alnedalen, but the conditions were quite grim and the clouds were too low to really see the mountain. So I went back towards Trollstigen and looken for a place to pitch my tent for the night. The weather forecast said cold and clear skies for the night and next morning. While setting up the tent the clouds cleared a bit at sunset and all of a sudden the mountains and landscapes were visible. There were even some colour in the clouds. The photo below is just be the tent overlooking Stigbotnvatnet and Stigbotthornet.

Here are a few more photos from that evening and the morning after

I went to bed and had the alarm on one hour before sunrise. The first sight outide was quite different than the night before. It was clear skies, some mist and freezing. Had a walk to the areas nearby before deciding to move on to Trollstigen and Åndalsnes.

And what a surprise and sight it was overlooking Isterdalen. There was a huge cloud inversion in the entire valley and I saw before sunrise and after the sun hit the top of the inverion and trees in the valley. It took me by surprise and I didn`t know how to properly shoot it from where I as. So better luck next time. Below is one shot before the light lit up the valley.

I spent the day strolling around in Åndalsnes and driving to Venjedalen on the other side of Romsdalen. I walked to very short hike to Litlefjellet and just waited for the golden light. There were a few people around so I waited until quite late before setting up the tent. The spot for the tent was right at the edge of the mountain and probably the best view I`ve ever had.

Had a quite good sleep for a few hours before it was time for coffee and to check out the conditions for the next morning

Sunrise at 5 am overlooking Romsdalshorn and Trollveggen

A shot of Romsdalshorn from the Vengedalen. 7.23 am. The sun was partly behind Vendetinden so it gave an impression of sunrise for a long period after sunrise

Venjedalen and Venjetindan

Well, that was the last shot of the day before driving home. It was well worth the effort and I will go back to the same locations later one day for sure! Hpe you liked the photos and feel free to leave any comments below!
